While driving, noticed a crow attacking a small snake on side of road; felt compelled to pull over and defend the snake; was surprised that my protective instinct kicked in on snake's behalf; guess it's that old street-fighting ethic of "do not kick the one on the ground," except Nature itself is obviously not following this rule; conclusion: i am full of cheap sentimentality. Fire this mind!
