« Time is a Gesture »

If you heard a community bell announcing that it is "time to eat," would you confuse the chime of the bell with time?  Of course, not.  So, then why do you look at your watch and think that it is telling you time.  It's not.  Your watch is telling you nothing more than the position of its hands.  If I waived you into the kitchen because the food is finally ready for you to eat, would you confuse my gestures with time?  I hope not.

Understand: there is no time, not as a physical stimulus.  There is a chime of the bell or somebody's hands gesturing that that the food is finally ready to eat or the hands of the clock reminding you of the need for metabolic self-care.   And there is your thought: "Time to eat."   But there is no time, not in any physical sense.  Time is just a coordination of [social] activity.

"Time to wake up," "time to hunt/work," "time to eat/rest..."  Time is a series of social gestures that we have psychologically internalized and then imbued with ontological significance.
