« Matter Eating Matter »

Giordano Bruno, one of the most daring minds in the history of humanity, was burned alive by the Inquisition for the following kind of truism:

“Don’t you see, that which was seed will get green herb and herb will turn into ear and ear into bread.  Bread will turn into nutrient liquid, which produces blood, from blood semen, embryo, men, corpse, Earth, rock and mineral and thus matter will change its form ever and ever and ever and is capable of taking any natural form.”

The matter of eating is that we are eating matter.  There is a Gestalt-like ambiguity in what I just said: did I mean that we are eating matter in the sense that we are having matter for breakfast, lunch, and supper?  Or did I mean that we are eating matter in the sense that we ourselves are matter (the stuff of life) that eats.  Re-read Bruno’s quote to see that we are matter-eating matter.
