Thursday, September 8, 2011 Ilya Prigogine had a nice mantra:
Matter at equilibrium is "blind," but far from equlibrium it [matter] begins to "see."
I love this line but I see no need for quotation marks. After all, here you are - made of matter, as real and palbable as it gest, at a metabolic disequilibrium - seeing this screen, reading and pondering the meaning of this post. So, let me restate Prigogine's point:
Matter at equilibrium is blind, but far from equlibrium it [matter] begins to see.
