Mindstream Index

About MINDSTREAM [making sense of nonsense]:

Pattern Interruption Non-News has no informational value, just potential experiential value.  [Food-for-thought, by definition, comes with indigestion.  If food-for-thought goes down easy, it's not food-for-thought but just brain-candy.]

I write this freely, unafraid of self-contradiction.  And I encourage you to read this blog with the same attitude of interpretive freedom.

Walt Whitman:  Do I contradict myself?  Very well, then I contradict myself.  I am large: I contain multitudes.

Confusion* is enlightenment [of sorts].

confusion =  letting go of the known + stepping into the unknown = openness of mind

Dyson Satisfaction

My pick for Best Thing of 2000/10 Decade on Planet Earth: Dyson Vacuum cleaner. Now we just need to figure out what 2 do with inner vacuum.

Something About Nothing

Here's some backyard physics for you, from Zero: the Biography of a Dangerous Idea (by Charles Seife), Appendix E, "Make Your Own Wormhole Time Machine": "It's easy - just follow these four simple steps. Step 1: Build a small wormhole... Step 2: Attach one end of the wormhole to something very heavy and the other end to a spaceship that's going at 90 percent of speed of light..."

Ready? Set. Go nowhere!

Math is a language, just like English. You can speak sense or nonsense in Math just like in any other language.

My point? The word "nothing" (or "zero" in the language of math) exists but what it refers to doesn't.

p.s.: "Zero" by Seife is a great book

Fear No Emptiness

Truth is tribe-specific, mind-specific, moment-specific, fear-specific information.
You make a sound (whatever it is that your culture designated for a given fear)
And - bam! - everybody’s mind stops agog: “What? What?!”

I know one thing: there is no one thing, i.e. there is no one truth, i.e. there is no truth.
I left some blank space above and below for you to process this information
out of the singularity of your emptiness.

Fear no emptiness, certainly not your own!
"Boo!-ddha" is but an alarm call for: "beware of informational fullness."
Empty your mind of fear.

Your (and my) skull is a soup bowl full of alphabet; tip it over.
Fear no information.
Let mind spill.

Buddha: from Pali, lit. "awakened, enlightened," pp. of budh "to awake, know, perceive," related to Skt. bodhati "is awake, observes, understands" (etymonline.com)

Fast Food Emptiness

A cannibal of meaning
I ate your mind:

Now, let’s smile, Emptiness.
A hungry ghost of perfection, I am as full as I am empty.

Seconds anyone?
That is, if you got time...

Do you?

Tuareg Wind Carries No One (revised)

Tap, tap, triple-tap, not enough palms to clap, not enough heels to walk…
Neti-Neti* Knee knows not where to walk, so it walks not-knowing…
In between the dunes of sand or snow, knowing Nothing but One thing-less thing:
Whatever walkabout is about, no matter how infinite the diameter, a dervish ain’t a dervish.
Thus, un-wind, Wind!
Sands of time witness you pass, zig-zag-ing between Form and Essence…

Been there-here, done/undone this-that.
Your turn: spin!
Your web of interpretation catches nothing but word-fish...
So is mine, so is mine...

pavel, the writer-reader, on a walkabout about what he ain't...

*"neti, neti" - an Upanishadic saying - translates from Sanskrit as "not this, not that" - an apophatic assertion of about identity (that in saying nothing, says nothing false)

Testing Stanzas

1.
Like a key turning in a lock, an analogy twists words into meaning.
Like a used car salesman, I am selling you my Hinayana* vehicle.
It got me nowhere I wanted to go…
2.
Compassion is company.
You are the destination, without an address.
3.
Ganges-river welcomes me a-surface,
like a homeless Mongol to its prairie space…
What the heck, I come in through any gateless gate that's opened to me!
4.
But now, just as before, I discover: still no one's there...
Yet, as always, someone's testing stanzas...
Not me!

*Hinayana - Hînayâna (हीनयान) is a Sanskrit/Pâli term literally meaning: "the low vehicle", "the inferior vehicle", or "the deficient vehicle" - i.e. a vehicle of individual salvation (to be contrasted with Mahayana-type Buddhism - the big school-bus-size vehicle of "let's get enlightened together!"
